Hong Kong, May 27th, 2025 – A delegation from Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) TASLab recently visited the Hong Kong Police Force’s Force Drone Cadre (FDC) to discuss advancements in drone technology and explore ways to support law enforcement operations. The meeting highlighted the growing importance of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) in public safety and emergency response.

During the visit, PolyU experts, lead by Dr. Wen Weisong, showcased technologies that solves pain points of the police force, including aerial surveillance, traffic monitoring, and disaster assessment after accidental fall, by providing a special designed calculator program. The discussions focused on how academic research and technological innovation can assist the police in enhancing operational efficiency and community safety.

A spokesperson for the Hong Kong Police FDC expressed appreciation for PolyU’s contributions, stating that the collaboration would help integrate advanced UAV solutions into policing strategies. Meanwhile, PolyU representatives emphasized their commitment to leveraging expertise in engineering and robotics to support the city’s law enforcement efforts.

This partnership underscores the vital role of academia-industry cooperation in driving smart city initiatives and improving public services. Both parties agreed to maintain close communication for future projects involving drone technology and other innovative tools.
