Prof. Weisong Wen Receives Merit Award for Outstanding Early Career Researcher in PolyU Faculty Awards 2026

Prof. Weisong Wen, Assistant Professor in the Department of Aeronautical and Aviation Engineering at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) and founding Director of the Trustworthy AI and Autonomous Systems Laboratory (TAS LAB), has been named a Merit Award recipient in the Research and Scholarly Activities: Outstanding Early Career Researcher category of the Faculty Awards for Outstanding Achievement 2026. The results were announced by the Faculty of Engineering on 15 September 2026.

The Faculty Awards recognise achievements across teaching, research and scholarly activities, research student supervision, knowledge transfer, and services. Awardees were selected from departmental nominations by a Faculty Assessment Panel comprising department heads or their delegates and chaired by the Dean of Engineering, with reference to the University’s assessment criteria.

Prof. Wen’s research focuses on safe and trustworthy autonomous systems, spanning embodied AI for drones, legged robots, and intelligent vehicles, as well as high-precision positioning and localisation. His work brings together satellite navigation, LiDAR, cameras, and inertial sensors to support reliable navigation, alongside research on robot perception, planning, and control. According to the announcement, the awards will be presented at the Faculty’s Prize Presentation Ceremony in February/March 2027.
